Academic Open Budget 2024

The Academic Open Budget of 2024 has officially started.
Initiate. Decide. Vote. Do.

At the University of Wrocław, we firmly believe in the importance of involving our academic community in the facility’s budgeting process. Just like cities have participatory budgeting, our university developed a similar solution. The Academic Open Budget is an initiative through which we will grant a total of PLN 150,000 to 15 projects submitted by students, doctoral students, and employees of the UWr.

The event’s third edition begins on April 15, and we will know the voting results by the end of May. Implementation of the winning projects will run until the end of November – we can enjoy them fully afterwards. The students, doctoral students, and the University’s employees will decide on what to spend the PLN 150,000 from the Rector’s reserve. Leaders and their teams will submit project proposals up to a maximum amount of PLN 10,000. We draw inspiration from our city’s experience – referring to WOB (Wrocław Open Budget) and microgrants.

How to submit your project?

Please form a team consisting of 4 people (leader and 3 members) up to 6 people (leader and 5 members). Then read the rules and regulations carefully, come up with your own project idea, and send your submission! No worries, the submission form is easy to fill out. Our goal is to inspire creativity and encourage involvement of our academic community. The teams will come up with a project and execute their ideas on the University premises. Let us dream and create together! With these efforts, we can surely make a difference in our little world!

The projects submitted to the ABO have to:

1) be located on the University’s premises (“fixed” projects, e.g. chillout zones, etc. or activities carried out on the University’s premises)
2) fit within the designated budget frame – the cost of a single university project financed from the ABO cannot exceed PLN 10,000 (including the costs of drawing up the necessary documentation as well as the upkeep of the project throughout its entire duration*)
3) be implemented, including all expenses, by November 30, 2024. The project proposals may concern investments, renovations, equipment purchases, or support for cultural, scientific, and social initiatives.

* Funding of PLN 10,000 is available from the Academic Open Budget for a particular single project. If you plan to fund any additional purchase or activity as a part of the project, you can do so, but you must use your own funds for that. It is crucial to note that your project proposal and its description should include only implementation costs of PLN 10,000.

The course of the contest

1) development of projects and submitting them accordingly to the form – from April 15, 2024 to April 30, 2024.
2) official verification of the projects, and announcement of qualified projects for proceeding – by May 10, 2024.
3) promotion of the projects by the teams in the academic community and the voting – from May 11, 2024 to May 24, 2024 (11.59 pm)
4) Announcement of the results and determination of the list of projects to be implemented – May 27, 2024

We strongly encourage you to form project teams, come up with your ideas for the projects, and apply! Should you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Social Responsibility Office of the UWr by sending an email to the email address: odpowiedzialnosc@uwr.edu.pl.
