    Condolences to the community of the University of Warsaw

    We invite you to an international academic conference entitled ‘Legal Traditions in Poland and Hungary,’ which will take place on 12 May 2025 (Monday) at 8:30 a.m. in the Council Hall of the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics (ul. Uniwersytecka 22/26, 1st floor). The conference will be attended by doctoral students from the University of Wrocław and the Péter Pázmány Catholic University in Budapest.

    In the second half of May, the Institute of Musicology at the University of Wrocław will host pianist Alejandra Pacheco as part of the Erasmus+ Training programme, which supports cooperation between the Institute and the University of Seville (via the Vicerrectorado de Proyección Institucional e Internacionalización).

    On April 25, 2025, the first — and, according to the organizers, certainly not the last — National Interdisciplinary Conference of Silesian Researchers took place at the University of Wrocław. The student-run Interdisciplinary Research Association, affiliated with the College for Interdisciplinary Individual Studies, organized the event.

    The Foundation for Polish Science has announced the results of the 1/2024 call for proposals under the FIRST TEAM activity funded by the National Centre for Research and Development. A total of 174 projects were submitted for the call, and funding (amounting to nearly PLN 71 million) was awarded to 18 projects. Among them is “PROT-TOWING: opracowanie innowacyjnej technologii molekularnego holowania do selektywnej inaktywacji chorobotwórczych białek (eng. PROT-TOWING: Development of Innovative Molecular Tugging Technology for Selective Inactivation of Pathogenic Proteins)”, a project led by prof. Łukasz Opaliński from the Faculty of Biotechnology.     The Landscape Research Laboratory of the Institute of Geography and Regional Development cordially invites you to a guest lecture, which will take place on Monday, May 12, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 332 of the Institute of Geography and Regional Development, Plac Uniwersytecki 1. The lecture, titled “Rural Transformation and Revitalization in China”, will be delivered by prof. Yuheng Li, a world-renowned rural geographer from the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The presentation will explore contemporary processes of rural transformation in China and will be followed by an open discussion and opportunity for exchange of insights and experiences.

    The Institute of Polish Studies and the Society of Friends of Polish Studies in Wrocław invite you to the Meetings at ‘Nehring’ room – popular science lectures on Polish studies in the 2024/2025 academic year. On 18 May (Sunday) at 11:00-12:00, dr Karolina Chyła will give a lecture entitled ‘Błędny rycerz w wielkim mieście, czyli “Walka z szatanem” Stefana Żeromskiego’ in the Nehring Hall, in the reading room on the ground floor of the Institute of Polish Studies (pl. Nankiera 15b). Admission is free.

    In one of the most prestigious journals in the world specializing in the medicinal chemistry and discovering pharmaceuticals, The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (ACS), a publication appeared which describes the discovery of nanobodies blocking galectine-7 and of which the co-authors are dr Natalia Porębska and prof. dr hab. Łukasz Opaliński from the Department of Medical Biotechnology. The publication came into being in cooperation with the prof. Yves St Pierre team from INRS Quebec, Canada.

    Polish scientists, including researchers from the University of Wrocław, have investigated how climate change is reshaping the Arctic water cycle. The results of their analysis can be used to develop strategies to minimize the risks associated with extreme hydrological events in the polar and alpine regions.
