    On Friday, 16 January 2026, the 15th edition of the nationwide “Biologists’ Night” event will take place under the slogan: „Biologia pełna sygnałów – odkryj jak mówi życie”.

    The 56th meeting of the Jury of the Honorary Awards “Rejs Roku – Srebrny Sekstant” (eng. “Voyage of the Year – Silver Sextant”) took place at the Polish Navy Museum in Gdynia at the end of December. The Jury faced a difficult decision and, although it resolved not to award the main prize, it granted several equivalent awards, including one in the category “maritime education and the promotion of offshore sailing” to a project involving our scientists.

    An article entitled “500-year paleoclimate record inferred from Greenland juniper wood contextualizes current climate warming” has been published in the journal Nature Communications (IF = 15.7; 200 points on the Polish Ministry ranking list). One of its co-authors is prof dr hab. Piotr Owczarek from the Department of Physical Geography at the University of Wrocław.

    On 9 December, the Aula Leopoldina of the University of Wrocław hosted the concert “Artists for an Artist”, dedicated to the Senior Rector of the University of Wrocław, professor Adam Jezierski. The event had a formal academic character and served as a symbolic summary of the professor’s many years of presence in the scholarly and cultural life of the University.

    We are pleased to announce that the publication by prof. Urszula Glensk, entitled Pinezka. Zapiski z granicy polsko-białoruskiej, has won the Grand Press 2025 Award in the category Reportage Book of the Year, ex aequo with the book by Adam Zadworny, and has also received the special Audience Award.

    The fourth call of the Virtual Research Institute (WIB) has been concluded. An international panel of experts awarded the highest score to the project “Personalised antibody–drug conjugates activated by matrix metalloproteinases for solid tumours (PACMAN)”, submitted by a consortium of research institutions from Wrocław and Warsaw. Funding of PLN 72,854,995 has been allocated to the project from the Polish Science Fund.
