    The next edition of the Wrocławska Magnolia Competition has started!

    As was the case last year, our student was among the winners of the Polish Mathematical Society’s competition for the best student paper on the theory of probability and applications of mathematics. The results of the LVIII edition of this competition were announced on 19 February. This time, among the winners was our graduate, Witold Płecha, whose master’s thesis entitled ‘Some Limit Theorems for Random Randomness. ‘Some Limit Theorems for Random Weighted n-partite Complete Graphs’, written under the supervision of dr Piotr Dyszewski (UWr Mathematical Institute), took second place.

    Dr Anna Grochowska from the Department of Spatial Planning of the UWr Institute of Geography and Regional Development, together with a team of dr hab. Sylwia Dołzbłasz, prof. UWr (UWr Department of Land Management), dr Aneta Marek (UWr Department of Regional Geography and Tourism), and prof. Francesco Pagliacci (Università degli Studi di Padova), received a NAWA 2024 Intervention Grant in January for the project: ‘Flood risk awareness and management: the analysis of the effectiveness of measures and public perception’.

    All young science enthusiasts from grades 5 to 8 of primary school who are familiar with scientific experiments are invited to take part in the Universiada! The Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Wrocław and the Polish Association of Chemical Engineers – Wrocław Branch are organising a unique competition for science enthusiasts for the third time.

    It’s time for the Universiada to begin!

    The Artificial Intelligence Olympiad is a competition directed to students of Polish high schools. It is also a unique opportunity to support young talents – people who are just entering the world of AI and want to expand their knowledge, gain new experiences and develop their skills at the highest level. The aim of the competition is to popularize the key knowledge and technologies underlying artificial intelligence. The first stage will begin on February 17. You can register your participation until February 15 via the oai.cs.uni.wroc.pl website. 

    Second Artificial Intelligence Olympiad

    Three of our researchers dr Magdalena Gibiec, dr Michal Halicki and dr hab. Anna Śledzińska-Simon, prof. UWr, have become NAWA BEKKER programme scholarship recipients.  The programme supports the international mobility of doctoral students, researchers and academics.

    Once again, the UWr Institute of Computer Science will be the organiser of the ICPC Central Europe Regional Contest. From 13 to 15 December, our university will host seventy three-person teams consisting of programming enthusiasts from top universities in Central Europe, who will face complex algorithmic tasks.

    Two University of Wrocław scientists received this year’s Prime Minister’s Award. In the category for outstanding dissertation, the winners were dr Rafał Mudafrom the Institute of Psychology and dr Piotr Antoni Kołaczek-Szymański from the Astronomical Institute.

    Two researchers from the University of Wrocław were awarded this year’s Prime Minister’s Award in the category for an outstanding doctoral dissertation: dr Piotr Antoni Kołaczek-Szymański from the Institute of Astronomy, and dr Rafał Muda from the Institute of Psychology.
