Falling Walls Lab resolved!

Yesterday, enthusiasts of modern technology and innovative business solutions met at the Oratorium Marianum during the Wrocław edition of Falling Walls Lab. The organisers and partners of the event were the University of Wrocław, Wrocław University of Science andTechnology, Wrocław Academic Hub and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.

This international competition, aimed at students and young scientists, has a very interesting formula. Its participants have to present their idea for a breakthrough technology, scientific work or business in 3 minutes. Speeches are judged by a jury made up of representatives of the units organising the event.

The winner of this year’s Wrocław edition is Dr Enrico Patrono from the Institute of Physiology at the Czech Academy of Sciences for his project ‘Breaking the Wall of Neuroscience Single- Discipline’.

The laureate’s topic addresses the problem to unravel the causes of neuronal processes imbalance occurring in schizophrenia.  As a solution Dr Patrono suggested to use microfluidic chips called “Brain-on-a-Chip” as an innovative in-vitro-silico model for neural circuits, which allows a high temporal and spatial control of molecules and cells in schizophrenia. Dr Enrico Patrono will have the opportunity to present his idea at the Falling Walls Berlin international conference, where he will in turn have the chance to win funding for the project.

Second place went to Veronica Červenková from Charles University in Prague, who presented the project ‘Breaking the Wall of Biodegradable Plastic’. Third place went to Erik Sonntag (University of Chemistry and Technology Prague) presenting a project called ‘Breaking the Wall of  Medical Non-Compliance’.

Congratulations to the winners!
