Melodies of three generations – third edition

The previous academic year, the Institute of Slavic Studies, together with the co-organisers – the Centre for Culture and the Arts in Wrocław, the International Cooperation Office and the Student and Doctoral Activity Centre – concluded with a special XIXth Slavic Song Competition – With heart with Ukraine – and start the new year with the third edition of the concert Melodies of three generations.

On 6 October, students, lecturers and senior rector prof. Adam Jezierski will perform on the stage of the Oratorium Marianum as accompanist and performer – in other words, three generations on one stage. We will hear songs in English, Czech, Polish and Ukrainian.

The concert will be opened by an outstandingly talented 15-year-old student, who will perform the Concerto Scherzo by E. Abramian. This youngest participant in the concert is a winner of many national and international trumpet competitions. Over the past year, he has won 12 first and second prizes and several Grand Prix.

Audience members applauding the performers at the 19th edition of the Slavic Song Contest-Heart with Ukraine in May will be able to listen to some of the winners – students from the Institute of Slavic Staudies, Institute of Journalism and Social Communication, Institute of Scientific Information and Library Science, lecturers from Poland and the Czech Republic, a juror and sponsor of all editions of the competition and two graduates of the Institute of Slavic Staudies will perform. The concert will be concluded by senior rector prof. Adam Jezierski.

The artists of the younger generation, not least those performing on our stage, are very keen to return to the songs so eagerly listened to by the older generation – the generation of their parents and grandparents. We will therefore hear a brilliant piece from the repertoire of the inimitable Mira Kubasińska and the band Breakout Do kogo idziesz (Whom You’re Going), the most beautiful ballad of all time by Agnieszka Osiecka, Krzysztof Komeda sung by Edmund Fetting Nim wstanie dzień (Before the Day Rises), Małe tęsknoty (Little Longings ) by Wojciech Trzciński and Andrzej Mogielnicki from the repertoire of Krystyna Prońko. These and other songs we will hear on 6 October. We will experience the maturity of young artists who appreciate the beauty of lyrics and music from long ago.

The young performers will also present newer songs by their favourite artists, e.g. Kasia Dereń There is no country, rock band Cкай  Tебецеможевбити  or Waving through a window. Fans of sultry, lyrical pieces will also be satisfied. They will hear П’єжуравкаводу, Dumy moi and an old Lemko song Гамерицкий Край.

Fans of more than just nostalgic, sombre, sometimes gloomy melodies from across the Czech border will be delighted by the performance of the well-known Polish-Czech duo, who will present their own original songs, as well as songs known not only in Poland, using unusual instrumentation.

The concert will take place at the Oratory Marianum on 6 October 2022 at 17:00. You are welcome.

The project “Integrated Program for the Development of the University of Wrocław 2018-2022” co-financed by the European Union from the European Social Fund
