Prime Minister’s Award to dr Aleksandra Kil-Matlak

Dr Aleksandra Kil-Matlak, a graduate of the Institute of Cultural Studies, was awarded the Prime Minister’s Prize in the category of outstanding doctoral dissertations for her thesis entitled “Od humanistyki cyfrowej do analogowej. Fiszki jako aparat poznania naukowego”(‘From digital to analogue humanities. Fiche as an apparatus of scientific cognition’), written under the supervision of professor Dorota Wolska.

The justification states that it is “an unexpectedly outstanding dissertation on the cultural mediology of the humanities. It shows it in a novel way, as a technologically infrastructure-based discipline for the creation of valuable and socially useful humanities knowledge. Here, the traditional scientific fiche has acquired the dimension of an important, hitherto unknown, instrument of cognition proper to the humanities, also in its modern version”.

The protagonist of dr Kil-Matlak’s dissertation is a catalogue of fiches by professor Stanisław Pietraszko, the founder of the first cultural studies centre in Poland at the University of Wrocław. This year, Wrocław cultural studies is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Congratulations!

The project “Integrated Program for the Development of the University of Wrocław 2018-2022” co-financed by the European Union from the European Social Fund
