Professor Krzysztof Stefaniak awarded with the Medal for Merit to Kłodzko County

Dr hab. Krzysztof Stefaniak, professor of the University of Wrocław from the Department of Palaeozoology, Faculty of Biological Sciences, has been awarded with the Medal for Merit to Kłodzko County. Congratulations!

On the 10th of November 2022, in the historic Arnošt of Pardubice Auditorium of the Bolesław Chrobry High School in Kłodzko, a ceremonial session of the District Council took place, during which ‘Medals for Merit to Kłodzko County’ were awarded.

The Kłodzko County Management Board composed of: Małgorzata Jędrzejewska-Skrzypczyk (Kłodzko County Vice-Prefect), Piotr Marchewka (Full-time Member of the Kłodzko County Board), Małgorzata Kanecka (Member of the Kłodzko County Board), Ryszard Niebieszczański (Member of the Kłodzko County Board), Zbigniew Łopusiewicz (Chairman of the Kłodzko County Council on behalf of the Kłodzko County Council), jointly presented the Badges of Honour.

The badge of ‘Medal for Merit to Kłodzko County’ is awarded to persons and institutions whose activities have made a special mark on the history of Kłodzko County.

It is an expression of a special distinction awarded for services to Kłodzko County, including significant contributions to its economic, social and cultural development and for significant participation in the promotion of the County in Poland and abroad.

The badge may be awarded to natural persons – Polish citizens and foreigners – as well as to economic, social and professional organisations, business entities of various organisational and legal forms and institutions acting on the basis of binding legal regulations.

This year, 15 nominations for honours were presented to the District Council, including individuals and institutions. All were approved by the councillors.

Krzysztof Stefaniak – graduated from the University of Wrocław in 1986 with a degree in biology. On the 18th of October 2001, he defended his doctoral thesis Jelenie (Cervidae, Mammalia) dolnego i środkowego plejstocenu Polski (Deer (Cervidae, Mammalia) of the Lower and Middle Pleistocene of Poland), receiving his PhD. On the 27th of June 2016,  he was habilitated on the basis of an assessment of his scientific output and a thesis entitled Neogene and Quaternary Cervidae from Poland. Professor at the University, head of the University of Wrocław Department of Paleozoology, head of the project ‘Stefania’, dedicated to the skeleton of an extinct rhinoceros of the genus Stephanorhinus, discovered in 2016.
