Promotion of the third edition of the Book Grupy dyspozycyjne. Analiza socjologiczna
On 1 July at 3:00 p.m., the premiere of the third edition of the book Grupy dyspozycyjne. Analiza socjologiczna will take place in the Oratorium Marianum. The author is dr hab. Jan Maciejewski, prof. UWr, long-time head of the Department of Sociology of Dispositional Groups at the UWr Institute of Sociology.
The event will be opened by the Rector of the University of Wrocław, Robert Olkiewicz, with the honorary participation of the Mayor of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk. Among the speakers will be invited guests, including former Rector of the University of Wrocław, Adam Jezierski, and Rector-Commandant of the Military University of Land Forces, General Marek Tomaszycki.
Representatives of uniformed services – the Provincial Police Headquarters, the Fire Service, the Prison Service, and the Municipal Guard – will also be in attendance. Members of the academic Security & Society Research Club will be present as well.
The book Grupy dyspozycyjne. Analiza socjologiczna, now appearing in its revised third edition, was first published in 2012, followed by a second, expanded edition in 2015. As stated in a review by prof. dr hab. Aleksander Manterys from the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences: – Professor Jan Maciejewski’s research proposal yields significant findings and is genuinely interdisciplinary. In short, it is cognitively valuable and allows for a critical view of the partial findings of various specialists and ‘specialists’ in security. This approach is in line with leading trends in global sociology, where established scholars increasingly and successfully go beyond the boundaries of subdisciplines in pursuit of a comprehensive understanding of various areas of social life.
Author’s Biography:
Jan Maciejewski — prof. dr hab., sociologist, educator, and pedagogue. From 2009 to 2024, head of the Department of Sociology of Dispositional Groups at the UWr Institute of Sociology. Researcher and consultant in the sociology of dispositional groups, military sociology, security studies, economic sociology, organisation and management, education, andragogy and pedagogy. Since 1996, a member of the Polish Sociological Association and the Polish Society for Security Sciences. Supervisor of thirty doctoral dissertations, reviewer of habilitations, books, research grants, and leader of numerous scientific and business projects. Organiser of over thirty international academic conferences. Author of more than 150 academic works, including several monographs, editor of dozens of collective volumes published in Poland and abroad. In the monograph Grupy dyspozycyjne. Analiza socjologiczna (first edition in 2012, second, expanded edition in 2014), he distinguished a new subfield within sociology – the sociology of dispositional groups.
The book Grupy dyspozycyjne. Analiza socjologiczna was also featured in the “Poniedziałki z WUWr” series.
