Volume XX – Science in the service of man

The selected matters show how science is helpful to people and enriches us. It allows us to learn about the world on various scales, from the cosmos to the microworld. This work shows examples of how various branches of science help with understanding human history on Earth and how interdisciplinary studies improved understanding of the human body. It presents examples of human works and creativity from various fields. The volume includes some of the lectures and introductions to discussions presented at the interdisciplinary seminar of the Studium Generale in the academic year 2014/2015 and some from 2015/2016.

Chapter I – Cognition of the Universe. It begins reflection regarding the Universe.

Chapter II – History of a man. As it is a broad subject, only a few examples are discussed. Those are the beginning of Christianity in the country ruled by the Piast dynasty, the formation of Poland and Europe during the founding of Wrocław, the diversity of cultures, and confession in the Balkans. Archaeological studies of pre-Columbian communities in southern also reveal the history of man in other parts of the world.

Chapter III – covers medical and mental issues.

Chapter IV – is an introduction to treatment on the pyramids in Egypt – their function, form, and symbolism.
