Scholars in Wrocław will discuss the war in Ukraine

XI National Convention of the Polish International Studies Association titled New International Order will take place on 24-25 November at the University of Wrocław. The Polish International Studies Association is a scholarly society representing researchers in the field of international relations.

The theme of this year’s convention alludes to the issues of changes in the structure and functioning of the modern international order. Russian Federation’s invasion serves as a direct inspiration for the discussion. The Russian nuclear power undermined post-Cold War European rules of order by attacking Ukraine.

Another matter under discussion will be: changes in international strategies of modern powers that consist in increasingly frequent using arguments of force, calling binding policies into question by nations, international organisations and global corporations, and limitations of the UN system that is unable to effectively oppose players who ignore policies of international relations. Leadership in the international system will be discussed as well. The scholars will ponder how the structure of the international system will shape in the future and, in particular, whether the leadership of the USA will be substituted by a treaty in which China and the European Union will balance American influences and also how will the status of NATO and the EU shape.

Over one hundred researchers from universities all over the country will participate in the event. This edition of the conference is of special significance for by virtue of the Minister of Education and Science’s decision of 27 October 2022, international relations are now a scientific discipline within the field of social sciences.  Therefore, the conference will seal the process of the discipline’s isolating and accentuate the tradition of international relations studies at our university that have also formed the new discipline’s identity.

The convention will take place on 24-25 November 2022 at the Institute of International Studies of the University of Wrocław at ul. Koszarowa 3. The event is organised under the auspices of Jacek Sutryk, the Mayor of Wrocław and Andrzej Jaroch, the chairman of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Sejmik.

The Institute of Central Europe in Lublin, the Regional Centre of International Debate (RODM) in Wrocław and the Projekt Akademia association are partners of the conference.

The media patronage over the event is provided by Euroactiv and Radio Rodzina. An IT company s4tech sponsors the conference.
