Faculty of Earth Sciences and Environmental Management
The Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences was established on 1 September 2006, but its roots go back to the Faculty of Natural Sciences, within which the developing natural sciences – biology, biochemistry and biotechnology, geography and geology – became independent, forming separate organisational units. Within the structure of the Faculty there are: the Institute of Geography and Regional Development, the Institute of Geological Sciences, and the Mineralogical Museum. The strength of the Faculty is its high scientific level confirmed by the award of the A category in the last parametric evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The Faculty of Earth Sciences and Environmental Management is authorised to confer doctoral and post-doctoral degrees in Earth sciences, in the disciplines of geography and geology. The Faculty’s teaching offer is very broad and includes bachelor’s, engineering and master’s degrees. Candidates are offered six fields of study (Geography, Spatial Management, Geology, Geological Engineering, Tourism, and Environmental Protection), the latter being an interdisciplinary course co-taught with the Faculty of Biological Sciences. The Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences also runs third degree programmes, graduates of which are awarded doctoral degrees in the discipline of geography or geology. Students of our Faculty have the opportunity to take advantage of international exchange programmes – Erasmus+ and national exchange programmes – MOST and to study in many units with which we cooperate. The Faculty has excellent teaching facilities in the form of numerous well-equipped laboratories and computer rooms. It is also worth emphasising the involvement of our students in the scientific research conducted at the Faculty through their high level of activity in numerous, thriving and award-winning scientific circles. Faculty staff continuously cooperate with the socio-economic environment through the implementation of joint projects, scientific studies and expert opinions. As a result, our graduates are well acquainted with the realities of the labour market and are properly prepared for their professions.
