UWr Computer Scientists will fly to Dubai!
The University of Wrocław’s team was promoted to the finals of the World Programming Championship, which will take place in Dubai in November 2026.
On Saturday, February 8th, 2026, the III ICPC Europe Championship took place at the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Management. This regional competition was a part of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). Three-person teams from top IT academies around the world gathered to compete for the chance to participate in the world finals.
53 teams came to Warsaw as representatives from leading European academic centers specialized in IT. The contestants had to solve 11 algorithmic tasks in a 5-hour period. The international panel of judges had prepared an exceptionally difficult set of tasks, which would prove to be a challenge even for the top-notch algorithmic problem-solving enthusiasts. Ultimately, of the 11 provided tasks, 8 were solved.
With the result of 5 solved assignments, the team from Delft University of Technology brought home the first place. University of Wrocław’s team, consisting of Krzysztof Olejnik, Olaf Surgut, and Paulina Żeleźnik, took 16th place with only one task fewer than the winning team. Paweł Gawrychowski from the University of Wrocław’s Institute of Computer Science was on-site supporting our group. Thus, UWr’s team secured a place in the world finals, which will be held in Dubai this November.
A team sponsored by Huawei also competed and was the only one to solve 6 tasks. One of the members, Michał Plata, is both a Huawei employee and a fellow UWr student. Congratulations to our team!
