The conservators at work
The conservation works on Aula Leopoldina were an unusual challenge for all teams, mainly because of the importance, nature and state of preservation of the facility. More than 50 people were involved in renovation and conservatory works within the dais and matroneum area and strengthening the Aula’s ceiling. Most of the workers were certificated and experienced art conservators.
Two teams of art conservators supervised by Anna Mossler (paintings) and Bożena Opiłło (sculptures and mouldings) worked on the premises of Aula Leopoldina. The facility was open for tourists both in 2016 during the conservation works on the dais as well as in 2017 during the works on the matroneum. While tourists could watch the conservators embellishing the dais, it was no longer possible with the matroneum, so we present a photo report showing the conservators’ work up close.
