On behalf of the International Office, we invite you to a very special Christmas Concert performed by the International Students Orchestra of the University of Wrocław. As every year, we will gather in the magical atmosphere of music – this year’s concert will take place on 17 December 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in the Oratorium Marianum.

We are pleased to announce that the publication by prof. Urszula Glensk, entitled Pinezka. Zapiski z granicy polsko-białoruskiej, has won the Grand Press 2025 Award in the category Reportage Book of the Year, ex aequo with the book by Adam Zadworny, and has also received the special Audience Award.

The fourth call of the Virtual Research Institute (WIB) has been concluded. An international panel of experts awarded the highest score to the project “Personalised antibody–drug conjugates activated by matrix metalloproteinases for solid tumours (PACMAN)”, submitted by a consortium of research institutions from Wrocław and Warsaw. Funding of PLN 72,854,995 has been allocated to the project from the Polish Science Fund.

Researchers from the University of Wrocław and Angelo State University are conducting a study on compulsive lying.

On Thursday, 11 December 2025, prof. dr hab. Jacek Semaniak, Rector of Jan Kochanowski University of Kielce during the terms 2012-2016 and 2016-2020, passed away. He was an outstanding individual and scholar, a long-serving rector, and a member of the Science Policy Committee at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the years 2020-2022. Since 2020, he had held the position of President of the Central Office of Measures (GUM).

We are pleased to announce the forthcoming opening of an exhibition of works by the Wrocław-based ceramic artist Magdalena Maros, created as part of a scholarship awarded by the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship under the project “Szepty Ziemi”.

At a meeting of the Committee on Social Communication and Media Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences on 20 October 2025, the winners of the 1st edition of the Committee Award were selected for outstanding scientific publications (articles) and monographs in the field of social communication and media sciences. These awards were presented yesterday at an official gala at the Staszic Palace in Warsaw, the seat of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The winner in the book category is dr hab. Paweł Urbaniak, prof. UWr, for his monograph System odpowiedzialności mediów w Polsce na tle systemów w innych krajach” (Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego, Wrocław 2024) !

On Wednesday, 10 December, during a session of the Kraków City Council, representatives of the scientific community received the Nicolaus Copernicus Scientific Awards. Among the honoured scientists were three from the University of Wrocław!

This year’s best Master’s thesis in tourism was written at the Department of Regional Geography and Tourism at the University of Wrocław!

Fiasco Fest is a workshop dedicated to a constructive approach to failure in an academic career, aimed at doctoral candidates of the UWr Doctoral School. The event is held in Polish and is the result of collaboration within the ARQUS alliance under the project Fiasco Fest goes Arqus, funded by the Arqus Innovation Fund.

The results of research conducted by a team of scientists from University of Wrocław, recently published in Nature Communications, contribute to a deeper understanding of the processes underlying cancer cell transformation and may in the future help to better explain how DNA repair defects contribute to the development of cancer in humans.

On Wednesday, 10 December, after the meeting of the Rector and Dean’s Council in the Senate Hall, a ceremony was held to celebrate the promotion of individuals who received the title of full professor or were promoted to the position of university professor this year (from June to December 2025).
